Hi! So this one's for you, the person putting off something because it’s not perfect yet. You may convince yourself that you’re not chasing perfectionism—you’re just ensuring it’s good enough. But deep down, you know it will never feel good enough. This week, I came across a thought on perfectionism that resonated with me: The most evil trick about perfectionism, though, is that it disguises itself as a virtue. In job interviews, for instance, people will sometimes advertise their perfectionism as if it’s their greatest selling point—taking pride in the very thing that is holding them back. And here’s what shifted my view of perfectionism: Perfectionism is just a high-end, haute-couture version of fear. It’s not a badge of honour, even though people can wear it like one. I can relate—I often wait until something I create meets my impossibly high standards. I find myself exhausted, and it’s only when I reach the point of “Okay, I can’t do this anymore” that I finally let go. That isn’t normal. Now that I recognize this, I definitely can’t unsee it. So what can we do? Call ourselves out. Next time you’re waiting for the “perfect moment” or the “right time”—that’s fear. Recognize that it’s okay to start imperfectly. Progress often holds more value than perfection. Embrace the messiness of growth, and remember that taking action—even if it’s not perfect—will lead you closer to where you want to be. Allow yourself to move forward, even if it’s not flawless. It’s all part of the journey and will 100% get you closer to where you want to be. Wishing you the clarity to take that next step. 🩵 Love, |
